WHAT WE FUND

We aim to fund projects working in the countries we have previously had a presence: South Africa, Kenya, Swaziland, Malawi, Tanzania and Zanzibar. We would particularly welcome applications from projects working in the communities in which we have previously worked and built partnerships.

We fund projects run by:

  • Organisations operating in the above geographical area supporting young people

  • Individual young people in the UK organising or supporting local projects in the above geographical area in conjunction with a local organisation

Applicants must be able to clearly outline:

  • The project outcomes

  • The charitable aims of the organisation/individual

  • Why the funding is needed and who it will benefit

  • How the money will be spent and why that particular amount has been requested

  • Plans to ensure a sustainable impact

Our priorities include:

  • Improving access to formal and informal education

  • Improving the employability of young people

  • Encouraging young people to volunteer

  • Giving young people a voice to help them advocate for their needs

  • Strengthening capacity within small charitable organisations

  • Supporting young people with the challenges (called “youth issues” locally) faced in their area ie unemployment, sexual violence, teenage pregnancy

What we don’t fund:

  • “Aid in kind” ie food

  • Goods to be used outside of the scope of the project applied for

  • Political activities or campaigns

  • Religious projects unless they are open to all

How much you can apply for

Tenteleni generally provides grants between £500 to £2,500. For the right project we may consider granting more.

If you are successful we ask that you send an end of project report describing what you have achieved through the project. All applications will be considered on a case by case basis.
